TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Prior to her graduate and undergraduate studies, Maia was primarily a choir singer and has a vast experience singing in choirs professionally.

 

With extensive experience in NYSSMA Voice and Piano, Maia prepares her students for each section especially the sight reading portion.

 

Before her operatic training, Maia studied piano for 8 years. She has achieved a score ranking Outstanding in Level VI NYSSMA for both voice and piano.  

 

Maia can attest that studying piano has helped her immensely in her musical career, particularly in her vocal studies, and encourages her students to have at least a beginner’s proficiency in piano.

 

Maia has a love of jazz and musical theater repertoire. This being said, she strongly believes that having a foundation in Classical technique is essential for singing all genres of music.  

 

When teaching, though Maia's approach is technical, Maia makes sure to focus each lesson on her student's well-being, taking an organic approach to singing so that each student's needs are met.

 

Although Maia will focus on breath work, resonance,  acting, music theory, ear training, and posture from an Alexander technique lens, Maia believes the most important thing is to have fun!
